OP-ED: Long-term St. Mary Parish School System substitute teacher fired after racist Michelle Obama post went viral

FLOTUS Michelle Obama has endured close to a decade of national disparagement and dehumanization by anti-black racists, Fox News pundits, and loud mouth white folks who don’t realize the internet is a public forum. Earlier this week, a racist post made by an educator for St. Mary Parish School System in Louisiana, went viral, showing a side-by-side image of Mrs. Obama and a gorilla, alluding to Harambe, the, er, now famous(?), now deceased gorilla from Cincinnati Zoo, with the accompanying text: “They shot the wrong gorilla.” Cute.

According to local news station KATC, Superintendent Leonard Armato, the long-term substitute will not be hired back. "He's no longer a part of this system, and he will not substitute in the future," Armato said. "Bottom line, he's not working for St. Mary Parish again."

Racist ideas have been taught in our schools as a part of the system of this country. I read a "history" text book a friend had (stamped "Property of the School District of Philadelphia") printed in the 1930's that had 2-3 paragraphs on the "Indians" consisting of a diatribe stating that "They didn't build bridges or cities". That work was carried out by the women while the men stayed drunk.(paraphrasing). Do you think that Afro Americans were treated any better? The institute of racism permeates our schools & workplaces to this day.
