Yesterday, during the contentious Senate intelligence committee hearing, Senate Dems and Republicans clashed with the head intel leaders who, under oath, refused to answer questions related to President Trump’s reported attempts to lean on intelligence agencies to stop their investigations into Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and the Trump campaign at large, and their possible ties and collusion with Russia. Despite repeated confirmation that President Trump had not exerted executive privilege over the conversations, he’s reported to have had with these men, Intel leaders, without legal justifications or the right to do so.
California Sen. Kamala Harris, the state's former Attorney General, refused to relent in her line of questioning towards Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about whether or not he would Special Counsel Robert Mueller full independence from the Justice Department in his current investigation. Unlike her white male colleagues, both Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Senate intelligence committee Chairman Richard Burr interpreted Sen. Harris’ aggressive line of questioning before Chairman Burr ultimately suspended her turn to speak.
The exchange was striking given the fact that the Democrats including Vice Chair Mark Warner, Republicans like Marco Rubio and Independent Angus King were pretty incredulous at the Intel leaders refusal to cooperate with the committee, and they were not shut down. Watch the intense exchange, below.
