Wow, just when reluctant 'True Detective' fans had given up hope on a GOOD follow-up to the season one, Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali is in talks to star in the crime drama’s third season, according to Tracking Board.
But before you get too excited, acting wasn’t what killed 'True Detective' season 2 in the first place, save for Vince Vaughan. As masterful and cinematic as the storytelling in season 1 was, the whole thing collapsed into under a meandering, convoluted plot that bores me just thinking about it. This time around, though, 'Deadwood' creator David Milch has already been brought on board for season three to help 'True Detective' creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto from getting lost in his own head.
Season two’s struggling rating and poor critical reception have seen HBO’s hesitation to greenlight a third season, but with script writing beginning this past March and this latest news about Ali, maybe, just maybe the show will have a second chance. (Fingers and toes crossed that cinematographer/director Cary Fukunaga will return, too!)
