AFROPUNK

... the other Black experience

AFROPUNK Joins Sounds of Freedom Programming at Basha Uhuru

In association with Nando’s and the Department of Arts & Culture, AFROPUNK is hosting a stage, apart of Sounds of Freedom, in Constitution Hill’s Marshalling Yard for the Basha Uhuru Freedom Fest. Inspired by a 1976 peaceful protest facilitated by students in the streets of Soweto against an oppressive regime that resulted in bloodshed and incarceration, Basha Uhuru is a youth festival that commemorates 41 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprisings & the 21st anniversary of the constitution. We invite you to join us in celebrating the arts and the bravery of those students at Constitution Hill

Basha Uhuru Freedom Fest is focused on empowering youth in creative industries by affording them platforms for freedom of artistic expression. We couldn’t be more excited to join forces with them on their 5th year. Experience a 5 day program featuring contemporary art exhibits, conversations, film screenings, music, food, comedy, fashion, craft and more… all for free! Although the festival is free you MUST reserve a ticket to gain entrance.

The main attraction of the festival, the Sounds of Freedom music concert on the 24th of June features a diverse lineup of talent from all across the country. You’ll be able to experience the magic at two different venues both within the Constitution Hill museum precinct. The main stage will feature a musical blend of contemporary South African musicians including live performances and DJs. The second stage will be hosted by yours truly, AFROPUNK. Joining us will be local bands including DOOKOOM, Demogoroth Satanum, Radio123, TCIYF, and DJ Doowap. We’re excited to warm up with you all in anticipation for our first ever AFROPUNK JOHANNESBURG also taking place at Constitution Hill on December 30th and 31st.
