Black Women and Men With GLBT Tendencies

Disclaimer: This was originally posted on a forum, but this has been edited for blog posting.

So, I have a question: what do women think about dating a man who just happens to be have some slight homosexual tendencies?

I'm just asking because if there seems to be anything I have learned about black people from YouTube is that some of them are hella conservative. Everywhere you turn, there is someone talking about interracial dating, about…

Post-Sleep Realizations about Women Safety

So, last night I had been thinking about a couple of things while I was trying to get to sleep. One of them having to do with the rape situation Afro-Punk had posted, one having to do with a Tori Amos tune NME had introduced me into, and another having to do with a conversation I have had with other women friends. I had this really sudden realization that most of you are probably going to be like "well, duh!"

Anyway, the realization is that the real shock has less to do with what a…

Sugar & Spikes Tattoo Feature: Badass Singer Honey Larochelle

Honey Larochelle creates the kind of music where the funk drives into your soul and before you know it, you are rocking your whole body with your stank face on! Honey has been performing ever since she was 5 years old and was practically raised in soul and rock music with her mother who has sung with Marvin Gaye, Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi. It's easy to see that Honey's "Stankface Music" is a genre that was long in the making. After years of singing lead for The Brand New…

London's Madame So makes sincerely bizarre but bizarrely catchy indie pop on “The Sell-by Date EP” #SoundCheck

Jangly indiepop can be a dangerous proposition. There's a fine balance between personal weirdness (we used to call it quirk, but Zoe Deschanel ruined that word forever. Thanks a lot.) and traditional pop songwriting. The wrong balance can leave you sounding twee, phony, or just hopelessly unapproachable to anyone other than jangle purists. But there's little better than when someone nails that balance. Madame So's new EP “Sell-by Date” hits all the right notes. (Even the ones…

My Personal Roles in My Life

A person plays a lot of many roles in his or her life. Playing roles in the society is an everyday goal in personal situations. I am writing about my everyday roles as how I am a good daughter, a college student, a cousin and a visual artist.

Being a daughter is a gift for a mother. I am working very hard to be a good daughter to my mother, who is having problems at her job and telling me about her day in her job at home. Also, she tells stories about my grandmother past. Every…

The Peculiar Kind: "Remembering Homeless Youth During The Holidays"

We came across this article on GLAAD.org so we had to share it with you.

REMEMBERING HOMELESS YOUTH DURING THE HOLIDAYS

As families across the country gather to celebrate the holidays, it’s important to remember the many people, particularly LGBTQ-identified youth, who are without a permanent home or family simply because of who they are and love.

In fact, a census conducted by the Empire State Coalition and released by the New York City Council in 2008, found…

From the WTF department: Police in Swaziland ban women from wearing clothes that "encourage rape"

From the WTF department: Police in Swaziland ban women from wearing clothes that "encourage rape". More info below.

But really, beyond Swaziland, isn't time to stop blaming rape on the person who gets raped? Time to freaking get real. Whatever you wear or whatever you did is not an excuse for someone to rape you or for any other unethical behavior.

However, one reader stated on the…

Opinion: Put mental health officials in our nations schools

America has about 5% of the world’s population but 25% of the prisoner population, the highest number of guns per capita in the world and in this land of the free you are about 20 times more likely to get shot than in any other developed country. Think it’s odd that the country with seemingly the most criminals would also have the most guns, and then that these gun owners would shoot more people?

One of the biggest conversations we will have in America in these last few days…

I bring you The 12 Best Solange Knowles outfits of…
