FEATURE: The Strange History of The Mynah Birds, the Lost R&B Supergroup ft. Rick James and Neil Young. #SoundCheck

I've always been fascinated by the "almost-weres" in music. I've probably wasted entire days of my life imagining what Nirvana would have sounded like if Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis had accepted their offer to play drums instead of Dave Grohl, or what the 90's underground would have sounded like if Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty hadn't quit their noise-post-punk-hip-hop collective Happy Go Licky to join Fugazi. But there are few bands that inspire more…

FEATURE: 16-Year-Old Black Female Producer Spinelli Salem Brings A Fresh Twist To Witch House on Her 'Trash: Valium One EP' #SoundCheck

Though the genre Witch House may have started as something of a sarcastic joke (or at least the name did), the dark, chopped and screwed electro scene has increasingly become a serious force in the underground. 16 year old NYC producer Spinelli Salem mixes her sounds with trap beats and dark dense ambiance on her latest Thrash: Valium One EP.

FEATURE: The Ups and Downs of Being Gay in a Conservative, Religious, Jamaican Family

We are taught from school, our parents, and society from an early age that life is black and white and while it was necessary to set standards and boundaries for us when we were younger, the older we got the more evident it became that things weren’t so black and white in the world. Moral issues, such as abortion and euthanasia, aren’t as cut and dry as some would have us believe. Are mothers who are unfit or choose to otherwise terminate a pregnancy morally bankrupt? I don’t…

AFROPUNK PREMIERE: Georgia Anne Muldrow Goes Hip-Hop in “These Worlds” Video #SoundCheck

It's dangerous when an established artist tries on a new sound for size (history has thankfully forgotten Bowie's polka phase). The incredibly talented singer Georgia Anne Muldrow tries rapping on her latest EP Ms. One, and the only thing surprising about it is that she's never done this before. On her new single “These Worlds,” the newly minted MC seamlessly blends contradictions. Opening with an a capella sung chorus before kicking into the beat and verse, her flow…

The West as a whole has decidedly taken Africa under its wing and has made it the perfect place for a nationwide empathy movement. Creators of the documentary “Framed” want to make it very…
