"The Story Of Don Letts - Superstonic Sound: The Rebel Dread From Punk To Dubstep"

AP Fam! We'd like to share this article about pioneer punk DJ/filmmaker Don Letts, written by Trilly D. Millions for Freshly Serious. It mentions his appearance at the 2005 Afro-punk Festival at BAM (Brooklyn Academy Of Music)!

"Don Letts is an unsung hero of British music. 'Superstonic Sound: The Rebel Dread' is a documentary about the Letts family legacy that mirrors the history of BASS in the UK from Dub, Reggae and…

Reminder: Sade Kicks Off World Tour!

Who loves Sade here? Ah c'mon fuckers, you know you've cried to "No Ordinary Love" and kissed to "Smooth Operator", don't try to act all tough now. Besides, if there's one artist who doesn't seem to care about trends and label politics when creating her songs, it's Ms. Adu. Well she's coming to a city near you! And you know that only happens once in a blue moon (it's been 10 years since they toured the U.S., and 17 years since their last European tour). Got your tickets? They will… Continue

Black Witch: "Black Magick, White Magick"

Any decent book on witchcraft will tell you that despite what popular media say, there's no such thing as black or white magick, just intent. But still, even among witches the term "black magick" is used in reference to hexes and jinxes, and is partly accepted. We as witches understand that magick itself is not evil - it's just utilizing the natural energies of the universe to bring about change. But the colorizing of different types of magick (white magick, green magick,…

Hi guys, you might have heard the news. Singer and frontwoman of classic punk band X-Ray Spex, Poly Styrene, passed away Monday evening, after battling cancer. Our sincere condolences to her friends and family. People say 'alternative' but get anxious when people show up and want to do something really different, so I got tired of waiting for the band thing to happen. Hedonica, is not unlike anything you may have heard, but it is a raw individualistic indulgence in artistic self pleasure. You can't do this, You can't say this, You can't think this or ELSE.  I always have to challenge that or else.

AP History: Sister Rosetta Tharpe

The origins of rock and roll are hazy at best. Seemingly every year someone steps up with a new claimant to the title “first rock and roll record.” The fact is that musical genres are more convergent phenomena than inventions, though it's hard to resist the urge to point at one recording and declare: “This is where it began!” (Just look at how easy it is to spark a heated argument about the origin of punk rock...aaaaaaand GO.). Nevertheless, in a genre infamous for it's “boy's…

He keeps showing up...this guy.

This is a story of Tracey and Mr. Intentional. But let me introduce them to you first. Tracey had inadequacy issues from her childhood that kept arising here and there in life. Although she never really thought of herself as important, she kept feeling like there was more to be had in loving others. To Tracey, there was always someone who needed love. Prince's sense of showmanship. The stage was shaped like that symbol, there were dancers, hella costume changes, lights, video screens, etc. The guy's a pretty good dancer too.

Happy people act happy. Everyone in the massive crowd was in a good mood and very polite. It is such a contrast…
